Bath Linocut Map Print – Mark Andrew Webber

The Bath map is a hand-cut typographic linocut by Mark Andrew Webber (Reading, UK): a 40 × 40 cm circular print on 300gsm Somerset. The shop listing is the black and red two-colour edition (edition of 100, 5 remaining at £250); a few black and white prints are also available on request. The artist notes the block was later damaged, so fewer impressions exist than the original edition number suggests. Signed and numbered.

I decided to carve a map of Bath as a bit of a different one. I decided to go smaller this time, and carve it in a circular shape due to bath topography being shaped in a bowl. I spent some time in Bath and talked to people, getting to know what places to include. I decided to simplify the railway, and keep the shapes as simple as possible.

The edition

Limited edition black and red, I printed 20 and wrote on them an edition of 100 but have actually only made 20 – the linocut has been ruined during an experiment so the limited edition is more limited than I originally meant it to be. I also have a few black and white versions available.
