If we Don’t Care who will

This was made for an e-zine that took 12 Angry Men as its starting point, giving each issue over to one of the jurors. I was given the watchmaker. The brief asked for something fiddly and organic — clinical, but with some heart in it — and that tension is really what the piece is about. I wanted the lettering to feel technical: engineered, tightly spaced, closer to a schematic than a sketch. The gears came out of the character himself. A watchmaker works in tiny increments, one component at a time, and there was something in that patience that matched the line. So the type is assembled the way a movement is assembled — small parts, meshed, doing one job each.
